Indecisiveness no longer will serve as an excuse to be without a major after Wednesday’s Meet the Majors, sponsored by career services.
Linda Moreno, career guide specialist, said Tuesday the event is for students who are undecided about their career opportunities.
“Students should come talk to the instructors,” Moreno said. Meet the Majors will provide a chance for instructors from all departments to hand out information pertaining to their specific area of study.
Sociology Chair Gloria Pimental said she was grateful for the event and the chance for students to build awareness about certain classes, specifically ANTH 2301, Introduction to Physical Anthropology.
Pimental said physical anthropology, which entails the study of culture and the human condition, past, present and future, has grown in popularity. Other natural science courses may seem somewhat daunting.
“We want students to know we exist,” Pimental said with a laugh.
Moreno’s goal with Meet the Majors is to instill the knowledge a student needs to get on the ball and major in something enjoyable and career centered, she said.
Professional-technical and academic departments will have display tables at the event. Teaching Academy Program Peers will be the only student club participating, Moreno said.
Meet the Majors is held every long-term semester, she said.
Along with basic information about classes and requirements, instructors will be able to assist students with information on transfers, degree plans and career directives, Moreno said.
Meet the Majors will be from 9 a.m.-noon Wednesday in the Fiesta Room of Loftin Student Center. For more information, call Julie Engel at 486-0340.
