The need for an election does not simply end each time a president is voted into office.
Registered Bexar County voters can head to the polls Tuesday for the Bexar County Amendment, Joint General, Special and Bond Election.
During its 2009 regular session, the 81st Texas Legislature passed eight joint resolutions that propose 11 amendments to the state constitution.
The propositions will be on Tuesday’s ballot, and those receiving a majority vote will become part of the state constitution.
From the 1876 adoption of the Texas Legislature through November 2007, voters have approved 456 of the 632 proposed amendments that have been on Texas ballots.
The Texas Legislative Council, the legal staff of the Texas House and Senate, prepared the “Analyses of Proposed Constitutional Amendments” for Tuesday’s election.
A section for each proposition includes wording of the proposition as it appears on the ballot, analysis of the proposed amendment, background, summary of comments, comments by supporters and comments by opponents.
Amendment No. 4 (H.J.R. 14, Article 2) is “The constitutional amendment establishing the national research university fund to enable emerging research universities in this state to achieve national prominence as major research universities and transferring the balance of the higher education fund to the national research university fund.”
General elections for the San Antonio River Authority and the City of Von Ormy, City of Alamo Heights Election, City of Windcrest Special Election and South San Antonio Independent School District bond election are on the ballot in addition to the 11 propositions.
